Horror movies this decade have been rather mediocre and unoriginal. Even good horror films are, most of the time, still quite forgettable. 2017, however, is proving to be an excellent year for horror. With Get Out receiving a 10/10 in my previous review.
Now here's a film that I've been excited for since I first heard of it. Despite the fact that I've never read the book (though I certainly will at some point) this film was simply amazing and covers everything I love about horror movies.
Personally, I don't consider the original It movie to be any good. Just average. Pennywise was fun, but more comedic than scary, and the writing, acting and particularly the effects were not very good. I give the original It a 5/10.
Luckily, however, this film SIGNIFICANTLY improved upon the original film. Like Get Out, it was a perfect balance of comedy and horror. All of the characters were not only likable and interesting, but relatable. You might not think that children swearing and telling rude jokes would be a good idea, but it worked. The bullies also had interesting backstories, even though they were completely PSYCHOTIC.
Pennywise was as scary as ever and the filmmakers were not afraid to be as gruesome and horrific as possible, especially with Georgie's death at the beginning and the reencounter at the end. I was creeped out the whole time and afterwards as well. He has the blend of a sweet, childish, yet creepy voice to a raging killer that is just pure evil every sense.
I adored this movie, but it's one that I encourage people to see themselves. There's not much else to say, apart from the fact that it truly is a horror masterpiece: creepy, fun, incredible. Go see it! While I don't consider it 10/10 worthy, it is most certainly the next best thing. A 9/10 is all you need to tell that you are going to see an amazing movie.
I am a huge fan of horror movies, and was anticipating seeing "It. But I was let down by the actual thrill of the movie. It was very predictable and not as scary as I would have hoped. I can see where it might have been frightening if you were terrified of clowns, but even my boyfriend, who is afraid of clowns, says he was unimpressed by the horror of the movie. I am easily scared and this movie was not scary at all for me. So much build up for a movie that just left me disappointed in the end.
